A design review is a milestone within a project design development process whereby the analysis and design is evaluated against its requirements in order to verify the outcomes of previous activities and identify and address the issues before committing to construction drawings.

A professional review is a process that is instituted to ensure that the end result of a design or investigation meets particular standards, is comprehensive and has not over-looked potentially critical issues, design errors and design deficiencies if there is any.

A review may cover part or all of a principal consultant’s design and will generally be checking the recognized or specified processes of investigation, design, which should have been performed satisfactorily and correctly. Therefore, it is deemed necessary and vital that the scope and depth of the review is well defined.

The detail scope of work shall include review of current design and highlight the areas of non-compliances as per latest code and highlight areas of design deficiencies if any. In principal the sequence of reviews shall be carried out based on the design input furnished by principal consultant in the following sequence,

  • Review of proposed concepts, inputs and assumptions made by principal consultant.
  • Review of gravity and lateral load paths.
  • Review of computerized 3D-analysis inputs.
  • Detailed analysis/design (including numerical checking) check of primary elements.
  • Check on analysis/design at critical structural elements.
  • Review of design parameters assumed to confirm the interpretation of design/analysis.
