The commercial development ICM Tower (International Co-operative Museum) encompasses one level of basement car park, Ground floor and 13 floors plus terrace (1B+GF+13+TERR = 15 Slabs), located on main Mavoor Road, opposite BMH (Baby Memorial Hospital) in the heart of Calicut City, Kerala. The total built up area is, in an order of about 1,26,000 Sq-ft.

This signature building which carries immense structural challenges, are essentially requiring high precision of analysis and explicit design approach whilst satisfying requirements of serviceability and ultimate design for all structural key elements. Moreover, being the project location in seismically sensitive region, the detailing requires to be adhered with set of ductile detailing rules and regulations. This project deserves and demands categorical structural analysis considerations and effective strategies to ensure robustness.

The building floor plans have drastic geometrical changes from Level-1 to Level-5 and thereafter it commences with typical layout. The layout at level 2 is of smallest extent followed with extension of floor foot prints at higher levels till level 5. Level-4 establishes the widest floor and then converges to smaller foot print at L5, which constitutes principal transfer floors to accommodate absolute miss-matches of floor layouts at upper floors from L6 and above.

In general, a reinforced concrete structural system is adopted throughout the building except at L2 part of slab is composite steel deck, adopted to facilitate construction. A Part of large span localise areas and large span beams receiving floating columns are addressed using post tensioned (PT) beams.
